CONWY Borough forward Corrig McGonigle is already showing he can mix it with the top strikers in the Huws Gray Alliance after a blistering start to the season.

The prolific striker has been the most deadly finishers outside of the top two divisions for a number of years now, and his supreme talents are already making a transition to the Huws Gray Alliance after being given a prolonged spell to shine under manager Gareth Thomas.

Despite a brief stint at Caernarfon Town, this is the first time that McGonigle has got a consistent run of games in the second tier, and many questioned whether or not he could carry on his outstanding record with the likes of Pentraeth, Glantraeth and the Tangerines against a higher quality of opposition.

He has silenced his doubters so far, racking up eight goals in all competitions so far and Thomas will be hoping his talisman can continue this stunning form throughout the winter months as they look to achieve a high finish and emerge from their first season back in the HGA with a high finish.

Of course, no star is complete without a strong supporting cast, and McGonigle’s strike partnership with Dean Seager is an extremely efficient one that no defender operating within the division will be looking forward to facing.

They complement each other very well and Seager does a brilliant job of taking the pressure off McGonigle, holding the ball up and using his fantastic vision to bring others into play, something that was further evident with his two assists in the cup victory over Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochant last weekend.

This is an ambitious squad who display a tremendous work ethic for one another, and McGonigle has not only fit in superbly well since arriving at Y Morfa last summer, but he has quickly emerged as an indispensable member of the squad that is now heavily reliant on their star man producing week in, week out.

The former Bangor City Academy standout’s individual contribution will go a long way to determining what Boro’ can achieve as a unit this term, and having someone that can find the net with even the most difficult of opportunities is something that not many sides operating in the Welsh pyramid can boast.

It’s been a good start, and with all strikers there will be difficult challenges ahead, but there is now no question McGonigle finally belongs at this level and Thomas deserves an enormous amount of credit for tsticking with the striker that brought so much success to the club last term.
