COLWYN Bay manager Craig Hogg suffered his first loss since taking over thanks to a 4-2 home reverse at the hands of Widnes.

The Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One West side were left counting the cost of some individual errors in the latter stages of the contest, and the Seagulls will be hoping for better fortune on Tuesday when they travel to Skelmersdale United on Tuesday, before welcoming Newcastle Town on Saturday (3pm).

Hogg said: "At the end of the day we are responsible as a dressing room for performances on the pitch and I would like to think we never perform as badly again this season as we did in the first 20 minutes of this game, when Widnes could have been out of sight.

"They should certainly have scored two of the three chances they had early on and they've implemented their game plan very, very well.

"We showed some character to come back and lead 2-1, and if we'd put away a couple of great chances it might have been a different story.

"We had chances, hit the bar and the post and some or our build up play was pleasing, but we have to do better.

"The frustrating thing is we know that performance wasn't a true reflection of what we are capable of and we need to find some consistency.

"Once we finally have everybody available and have more competition, hopefully that will come."

A sloppy start saw the visitors open the scoring through a fine Christopher Lomax effort, but the home side responded well and managed to get their moses in front with two goals in a seven-minute spell courtesy of Josh Brizell and an own goal from Elliot Jones.

This joy proved to be short-lived as Kevin Towey levelled matters from the penalty spot, and they took full control after the break with strikes from George Webster and Towey.

Tom McCready hit the bar from a free kick and Lewis Moynes clipped the far post with a chipped shot over the keeper for the hosts late on.
