ST ASAPH City booked their place in the JD Welsh Cup first round with a 3-1 victory over Barmouth and Dyffryn United.

The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One side continued their recent resurgence with another accomplished display in order to advance to the next stage of the competition, and the Saints will aim to take this momentum into third-tier action this Saturday when they host Greenfield.

Manager Daniel Brewerton, said: “It was a great result for us. The lads have been fantastic over recent weeks, the first half performance was as good as I’ve seen us play.

“We’ve had a tough start with a lot of things going against us, but the lads deserve to be in the hat for the draw and hopefully we can continue in the same manner going forward to get up the league table.”

The home side began the game on the front foot and went ahead within the opening minute when John Terry popped up to steer into the net to give Brewerton’s side the best possible start to the tie.

Veteran strike Carl Murray was in fantastic form throughout and managed to find the target on two occasions to all but seal the victory after a clinical display in front of goal from the forward.

The Magpies did their best to find a way back into the contest and did reduce the arrears, but the Saints’ rearguard remained resolute under the expert leadership of former Rhyl mainstay Jamie Brewerton to see out the remainder of the game with minimal fuss.”
