PRESTATYN Sports bowed out of the JD Welsh Cup after a dramatic 4-3 home loss after extra time to Pwllheli.

The newly promoted Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One side were unable to hold on to a 3-1 cushion in the second period during a rare home defeat at their Gronant base, and Mark Hughes and John Hargreaves’ men will look to get back to winning ways and continue their impressive start to life in the third tier when they welcome high-flying Nantlle Vale on Saturday.

A superb effort from Ben Cawley, a recent signing from rivals Prestatyn Town, put the home side ahead early on, but the visitors responded well to the setback and levelled proceedings shortly after thanks to a good spell of possession.

Sports seized the initiative yet again soon after when Kris Owen continued his recent fine run of form with a second, and forward Darren Cassidy extended their advantage when he rounded off a fine team move to put the hosts fully in the ascendancy.

Despite their dominance, they failed to see the game out and conceded two more in the second period to take the game into an additional 30 minutes, and they fell behind at a crucial stage in the tie.

Although they fought hard to try and send the game into penalties, they were unable to penetrate the determined away side’s defence and exited the competition at the second qualifying phase.
