LLANDUDNO have been handed the biggest possible test at the quarter final stage of the Nathaniel MG Cup.

Iwan Williams’ side have been pitted at home at all-conquering JD Welsh Premier League champions The New Saints of Oswestry Town on Tuesday, November 30 following their thrilling 5-3 victory at Huws Gray Alliance side Rhyl.

The visitors went into the break a goal to the good after George Harry capitalised on a mistake from Matthew Cook before curling a superb effort past Jonathan Hill-Dunt on 25 minutes, but a sensational start to the second period from the Lilies saw them go ahead within two minutes of the restart through Mike Pritchard and an own goal from Ieuan Hewitt.

This joy proved to be short-lived as Tudno struck back instantly following the restart through former Rhyl star Toby Jones, before another ex-player in Alun Webb gave the visitors the advantage with a smart finish after 51 minutes.

Williams’ side extended their cushion on 70 minutes when John Owen slotted home from close range, but a superb effort from James Murphy reduced the arrears after Tudno skipper Mike Pearson blazed over a penalty.

The tie was finally settled when Owen despatched his second of the contest on 87 minutes.

Top flight giants Connah’s Quay Nomads and Bala Town clash in what is arguably the tie of the round, with Haverfordwest County aiming to cause an upset at in-form Cardiff Met.

Giant-killers Cambrian and Clydach Vale BGC have another chance to cause a major upset when they welcome Newtown.
