VETERAN striker Leon Gierke was the star of the show as Llansannan secured a 3-1 home victory over Bro Cernyw.

With their Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division title rivals in cup action, Gari Evans’ side took full advantage to extend their lead at the summit thanks to another accomplished display.

The home side made a strong start to proceedings and they went ahead after 28 minutes when Gierke found the net after a sustained spell of possession, and the former Burnley FC trainee wasted little time in making an impact following the restart when he notched his second of the afternoon with 34 gone.

After the break saw the visitors get themselves back into the tie thanks to an own goal on 68 minutes, but the hosts responded well and regained their advantage after 72 when Harri Owen converted an opportunity to seal the three points.

St Asaph City claimed derby day bragging rights with a resounding 8-1 win at Division One rivals Denbigh Development.

Ben Patterson got the Saints off to flyer with the opener after ten minutes, with Matt Baker, an own goal and Paul Jones also on target during a dominant first half spell.

Baker and Jones secured their respective two goal salvos after the break, and a pair of late efforts from talented teenager David Lawson-Cooke on his return from university and Chris Smith completed the rout. Russell Vaughan continued his fine recent form with the hosts’ consolation on 69 minutes.

Y Glannau also picked up a valuable win on their travels thanks to a narrow 2-1 success at Rhuddlan Town Reserves.

A Joey Fontana strike on seven minutes gave the away side the upper hand early on, but Ryan Anderson equalised with 17 gone to leave it all square at the break.

The second period was a tight affair that was settled after 77 minutes when Andy Jones finished well for the visitors.
