ABERGELE advance to the second round of the Premier Cup thanks to a 4-2 home triumph over Rhuddlan Town.

Despite the eventual result it was Wayne Edward Hughes’ side who began the brighter, and prolific forward Jordan Bellham continued his fine goalscoring run with another well-taken effort after five minutes.

This provoked a strong response from the hosts, who levelled matters on 40 minutes courtesy of a James Witherspoon strike, but Town regained the initiative immediately following the restart when Callum Roberts gave them a slender cushion at the break.

After the interval saw Liam Roberts convert a chance to restore parity to the scoreline, and with the game heading into extra time two late goals on 82 and 89 minutes from Ryan Fortune and Chris Davies enabled Gele to progress.

Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Division One leaders Llanelwy Athletic turned on the style in their 6-1 REM Jones Cup first round win over Henllan.

A brace from the outstanding Chris McQullien was the highlight of another dazzling attacking display from the hosts, with Ashley Hughes, James Burke, Neil Fazakerley and Matty Lewis also hitting the target during the rout. Owain Jones fired in the visitors’ consolation.

Another side that enjoyed knockout success was Llanfairfechan Town Reserves, who managed to secure a 3-0 win at Llysfaen to book their place in the REM Jones Cup second round hat.

First half strikes from Ryan Bourne and Elliot Croston put the away side in the ascendancy, and Town sealed the victory in the second period thanks to a fine effort from Harry Croston.
