A TALENTED golfer has been rewarded for a phenomenal year with a prestigious award shortlisting.

Reuben Bather, a Year 11 pupil at Rydal Penrhos School in Colwyn Bay, has been named as a finalist in the Junior Sports Man of the Year category at the annual Conwy Sports Awards, and he will attend a special ceremony at Venue Cymru with other hopefuls on Friday, November 23.

The 15-year-old has enjoyed another memorable campaign which has been littered with regional and national competition successes, with his crowning glory coming with the Welsh national squad at the Quadrangular International Tournament, which they won for the first time in the programme’s history.

He has also led by example in his role as Junior Captain at Maesdu Golf Club in Llandudno and has been a key contributing factor in the impressive rise to prominence of the school’s Academy programme under the guidance of Ian Richardson and his dedicated coaching staff.

The celebrity guest for the 2018 Sport Conwy Sports Awards is Rally Driver, Jade Paveley, who races a 4WD Turbo charged Subaru.

She is currently competing in the Welsh Tarmac Championship and leading the junior class, first in the 4WD category and third in the overall Championship.

Allen Boyd, director of sport at Rydal Penrhos, said: “This is yet another fantastic achievement for Reuben and one that he is enormously deserving of.

“He is the shining light of our Golf Academy programme and has shown a tremendous dedication to his craft since arriving at Rydal Penrhos, something that has brought with it some unbelievable milestones for someone so young.”
