COLWYN Bay moved to within four points of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One West playoff with a superb 2-1 win at Droylsden.

The Seagulls picked up their second successive victory and made it seven points from their last three games with another impressive outing, and Craig Hogg’s men will look to continue their recent resurgence this Saturday when they host Ramsbottom United (3pm).

Assistant manager Neil Coverley, who performed exceptionally to aid his side’s cause, said: “"A terrific result which was a testament to what we worked on in training this week. The game plan was executed perfectly.

"We've drafted in Jordan Carrington, who lives a stone's throw from the ground, who came on and made his debut and who trained very well this week.

"We surrendered a bit of possession, to play counter attacking football and had the better chances. Craig Pritchard had a chance straight after half time to make it 3-0 and Ash Woods 10 minutes later, the same, but we dug in and deservedly took three points.

"It was a disciplined, dogged performance which was fully deserved.”

The visitors had the better of the first half and went ahead on 38 minutes when Blake Robinson converted from close range after good work from James Barrington, and they doubled their tally soon after when Tom McCready unleashed a ferocious effort from 25 yards into the net.

Josh Brizell almost added a third when his free-kick was superbly saved by the home custodian, with Lassana Mendes also going close with a long-range effort.

After the break saw Craig Pritchard spurn aa good opportunity early on, and the home side were handed a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty, which saw Andy Coughlin produce an outstanding save to deny Sefton Gonzalez from the spot.

Gonzales atoned for his error to reduce the arrears on 87 minutes, but Bay held firm in the closing stages for a vital three points.
