A COLWYN Bay youth rugby star has been rewarded for his exceptional recent progress with a regional squad selection.

Cieran Milligan, a Year 6 pupil at Rydal Penrhos Prep School, earned his place on the North East Wales Regional Schools’ U11 squad after impressing considerably during a trial period that lasted three weeks.

The ten-year-old will be looking to enhance his growing reputation with the set-up at the upcoming D.C Thomas Cup, which began in 1970 and will feature 26 other aspiring young sides from across the country.

This is the latest in a series of notable achievements for Cieran, who caught the eye of selectors thanks to his outstanding performances for Colwyn Bay’s U11 and U10 sides, in addition to the Prep School’s Cooper Cup success and their strong performance at the Urdd National Championships.

It promises to be an immensely busy few months for the pupil, who has also been selected to the Cricket Wales Regional Performance Pathway, and he will be based at their northern hub at Rydal Penrhos.

Jamie McLeod, head of boys’ games at Rydal Penrhos, said: “Cieran is a tremendously hard working individual who possesses an enormous amount of talent; two things that are going to serve him very well both in life and throughout what already looks to be a promising sporting career.

“I have no doubt that he can make a considerable impact with the North East Wales Regional Schools’ squad, and everyone at Rydal Penrhos wishes him the very best of luck with his efforts.”
