A COLWYN Bay school recently received a prestigious accreditation from a leading sailing organisation.

Rydal Penrhos’ sailing department is now fully accredited by the Royal Yachting Association, which allows them to host various courses under the RYA banner as a specialised Training Centre.

These include Dinghy Level One, Two and Three, in addition to Dinghy Seamanship skills and sailing with spinnakers.

They can also offer the Youth Sailing Scheme courses from stages 1-4, as well as Level One and Two Powerboat qualifications and a Safety Boat Course.

The programme has produced a host of Welsh and UK squad members in recent years, as well as achieving competition success at the same standard.

Sailing administrator Petrina Blomeley, said: “The Rydal Penrhos RYA Training Centre and Sailing Club offers each pupil who loves being in, on and around the water, enabling them to participate and enjoy the freedom of boating in a safe and fun environment; either for purely recreational cruising or to develop their sailing racing skills.

“The location of our school, proximity to the seafront and the opportunity to sail under the RYA Training Centre Scheme at Rydal Penrhos offers a significant benefit to the delivery of an outstanding Outdoor Education programme, and we one of very few schools in the UK able to teach sailing as part of the school curriculum.”
