COLWYN Bay assistant Neil Coverley was the special sponsor of his side’s recent league clash at the Four Crosses Construction Arena this weekend.

The family made a donation to the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One West side in memory of his Grandmother Iona Coverley, who passed away earlier this year and was a long-time supporter of the Seagulls.

Coverley’s son Zack was the special mascot for the occasion, with the Rydal Penrhos School pupil leading out the team alongside skipper Tom McCready prior to the clash, which the Seagulls narrowly lost 1-0 to halt their recent positive run of results under Craig Hogg.

Talented defender Coverley also start the encounter, with the former Bay skipper turning back the clock to turn in a series of exceptional displays to aid his side’s cause when called upon this term.

Midfielder Lassana Mendes received his October Player of the Month award, sponsored by Bowland Brewery, from Hogg after their weekend defeat.

The Spaniard was the clear winner in a poll of Bay supporters on the Official Colwyn Bay FC Facebook page, with evergreen Coverley as runner-up.

Mendes played for Spanish Second Division clubs Cadiz and PV Ejido in his native Spain before coming to England, and he was voted Player of the Year and was team captain for a number of games at Radcliffe Borough and had a short spell at Stalybridge Celtic before signing for the Seagulls.
