THREE brothers have added to their outstanding list of sailing achievements with national squad selections.

Llandudno Sailing Club members Eddie, Kevin and Liam Farrell have all been selected to UK Class National Squads in their respective boats after a series of outstanding performances to continue their exceptional recent progress.

The pair of Eddie and Kevin received an invitation to the 29er UK Class National Squad following the results of their first event together at Weymouth in September, and the duo received another deserved accolade in the form of a Welsh 29er Squad for the 2018/2019 season.

Kevin transitioned from the RS Feva to the 29er in August after the RS Feva European Championships and they have been sailing at Llandudno Sailing Club as much as possible over the summer, achieving some eye-catching results against older and more experienced opposition.

There was further cause for celebration within the Farrell family, who are all pupils at Rydal Penrhos School in Colwyn Bay, as Liam qualified for selection to the RS Feva UK Class National Squad with his new partner from the London area after impressing selectors at high-profile events in Draycote Water and Hayling Island.

The squads train for six weekends during the winter at locations throughout the UK ahead of a busy series of competitive competitions next year.

Allen Boyd, director of sport at Rydal Penrhos, said: “Eddie, Kevin and Liam have demonstrated an incredible amount of potential on the water, and they all work incredibly hard to maximise their talents, so it is fantastic to see them rewarded with some really impressive national squad selections.

“They are hugely motivated young men who are thriving across all areas of academic and co-curricular life here at Rydal Penrhos, and their specialised training over the winter will undoubtedly do wonders in terms of their overall development going forward.”
