LLANSANNAN continue to head the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division standings following a 2-1 victory at Cerrigydrudion.

Gari Evans and Tom Lewis’ side have enjoyed a sensational campaign to date, but they were made to work hard for the three points against resolute opposition that defied their current league position.

Things did not begin well for the visitors and they fell behind after nine minutes through an own goal, but they picked up their tempo just before the break and levelled matters when Adam Gage finished well with 43 gone.

After the break saw veteran striker Leon Gierke extend his fine recent run of goalscoring form with the away side’s second on 55 minutes, and the promotion hopefuls managed to hold on comfortably for the remainder of the second period to achieve yet another triumph.

Llandudno Amateurs put last weekend’s disappointing defeat behind them to seal a 2-1 home success over Llanfairfechan Town.

A cagey first half was turned on its head when Steve Kirk opened the scoring for the hosts on 54 minutes, but this joy proved to be short-lived as Town struck back almost instantly through Ellis Jones with 57 on the clock.

With the game heading towards a stalemate, Matthew Beach popped up with a late winner after 88 minutes after a concerted period of pressure to give the home side a crucial three points in their quest for the title.

Another of the promotion candidates secured a narrow win on home soil, with a Danny Talbot strike on 63 minutes enough to give Llandudno Athletic a 1-0 victory over Bro Cernyw.

There was plenty to celebrate from a Rhuddlan Town perspective, with Wayne Edward Hughes’ men turning in a fantastic attacking display in their 6-4 success at Machno United.
