ABERGELE advanced to the third round of the Presidents’ Cup with a convincing 4-1 home win over St Asaph City Reserves.

The Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division side were made to work hard for their victory but turned in a clinical display to book their place in the hat, and after a cagey opening to the tie Kan Williams broke clear and finished well on 25 minutes to give the home side the edge.

Things got even better soon after when another neat passing move saw Jack Hoult double their advantage on the half hour mark, and the same player put the Saints to the sword once again to secure his second of the contest with 40 gone.

After the break saw the hosts secure their passage to the next stage of the competition with an hour gone, and once again it was Hoult that finished well to round off a superb individual performance with a hat-trick.

Credit to the visitors, they kept plugging away and had a consolation to show for their efforts when Chris Smith hit the target after 65 minutes, but it did not take the gloss off a polished display from the home side as they avoided a potential banana skin in comfortable fashion.
