LLANELWY Athletic remain in control of Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Division One after an astonishing 8-7 home victory over Betws-y-Coed.

The long-time leaders tightened their grip further on the title after an incident packed game that produced 15 goals, and the home side went two-up within the opening eight minutes thanks to efforts from Rob Brown and Matty Lewis.

Things looked increasingly positive for the free-scoring side soon after when a quick-fire brace on 18 and 19 minutes from Brown and Lewis gave them a four-goal cushion, but the visitors gave themselves a glimmer of hope just before the break when Tom Williams and Rhys Williams reduced the arrears within the final stages of the first period.

After the break saw Athletic resume control of proceedings with impressive finishes from Dan Price and Brown, who rounded off another virtuoso individual display with his hat-trick.

Rhys Williams pounced for the away side on 62 minutes which was immediately cancelled out by Neil Fazackerley with 65 gone, but Betws kept themselves in the contest when Tom Williams also secured his brace on 68 during a frantic period of the contest.

The home side looked to have sealed three points on 89 minutes when Kyle Lally found the net after another scintillating attacking move, and despite Owain Hughes netting for the visitors after 83 it was not enough to rescue a share of the spoils as Athletic held on for the win following a pulsating affair throughout.
