COLWYN Bay manager Craig Hogg did not underestimate the significance of his side’s superb 2-1 home victory over Glossop North End.

The under-strength Seagulls showed their fighting qualities in the face of some stern pressure in the closing stages to get back to winning ways, and they are now just six points off the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One West playoff places ahead of their trip to seventh-placed Leek Town on Saturday (3pm).

Hogg, said: “Make no mistake, that was a hugely important result for our football club.

“There were some big performances today by all the lads and there had to be, as we had five players missing through illness, injury, suspension and international duty.

“I could single them all out for how well they played and they were all dead on their feet at the end, diving in with 6mins to go giving absolutely everything they could to win that game.

“It’s hugely gratifying to see young footballers flourish here at the Bay, along with senior players giving their and leading by example.

“We’ve had two narrow defeats on the bounce against two top of the table sides recently, but myself and Neil (Coverley) are working with a squad with an average age of 21 and it’s been a case of learning lessons the hard way at times.

“The hope now is that this can be a spark to kick us on during the period of tough games we have coming up in December.”

The home side opened the game in impressive fashion and opened the scoring on seven minutes when Danny Andrews rattled an effort in off the bar following good work from Tom McCready.

The Seagulls’ skipper was the provider for their second goal on 67 minutes, feeding James Barrigan with a superb through ball that he took full advantage of.

Despite Jack Tuohy reducing the arrears for the visitors three minutes from time, the Bay rearguard remained resolute for a crucial three points.
