BLAENAU Ffestiniog Amateurs extended their comfortable advantage at the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two summit with a hard-fought 2-1 win at Meliden.

The home side got off to a blistering start and took a shock lead after just one minute of play when Scott Stewart pounced to give them an early advantage.

Their rearguard held firm in the face of some stern pressure throughout the majority of the first period, but they conceded at a crucial time just before the break when Kieron Ellis produced a neat finish to level matters on 32 minutes.

After the break saw the visitors take a crucial lead on 58 minutes when Ellis fired in his second of the game with a sensational effort from the half-way line, and they managed to hold on for another three points that sees them move six clear of Kinmel Bay with three games in hand after they were held 2-2 at Aberffraw.

Rob Jones, Gavin Sharp and Mark Jones all found the net for Llannerchymedd in their 3-0 triumph at struggling Mochdre Sports, with Iwan Owen firing in a hat-trick for Y Felinheli as they thrashed Amlwch Town 7-1 on home soil.

There was no such luck for Gaerwen, who were beaten 5-2 by Glan Conwy, and Pentraeth were on the wrong end of a 3-1 reverse at a resurgent Llannefydd.

Holyhead Town ended the lengthy winning run of Penmaenmawr Phoenix but had to settle for a point after a goalless home draw.
