LLANSANNAN booked their place in the Presidents’ Cup third round with a 4-2 home win over Cerrigydrudion.

The Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division leaders maintained their sensational run of form since the start of the campaign, with Garu Evans and Tom Lewis’ side producing a professional display in the face of some late pressure from the visitors.

They got their noses in front after 20 minutes when prolific striker Geraint Jones found the net, and the veteran forward was on hand to double their advantage with another well-taken effort with 28 gone.

This joy proved to be short-lived as Cerrig halved the deficit after 33 minutes through Andrew Hessian, but Jones was on hand to secure his hat-trick in the second period and restore their two-goal cushion on 71.

A nervy ending to proceedings was assured when Tirion Griffiths hit the target on 84 minutes, but the away side were undone in stoppage time when a quick counter-attack presented a chance to Dafydd Owen, who made no mistake with the finish.

Also through to the next stage are Llanfairfechan Town, who produced a major shock by winning 2-1 at a formidable Llandudno Amateurs side.

Despite the eventual result it was the hosts who drew first blood when Mathew Beach netted on the hour mark, but a superb fightback from Town saw them score twice in quick succession through Euan Jones and Ellis Jones on 63 and 72 minutes to seal an eye-catching cup success.

A late goal saw Abergele also book their place in the hat after a dramatic 3-2 triumph at Bro Cernyw.

With the scores level at 2-2 heading into the closing stages, Kieran Hilditch was the Gele hero with a stunning strike on 87 minutes to see his team through.
