BODEDERN Athletic are the new Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One leaders after a narrow 3-2 home win over Nantlle Vale.

The newly promoted side have enjoyed a remarkable amount of success so far this term and are now ahead of Llangefni Town on goal difference having played two games more.

Vale began the game well and went ahead on 12 minutes through Aaron Griffiths, but the home side went into the break a goal to the good after strikes from Luke Challinor and the prolific Steven Whittaker.

Things got even better after the break when Casey Boylan’s penalty on 59 minutes doubled their advantage, and despite Gethin Williams reducing the arrears with 77 gone Athletic held on for another vital three points in their quest for the title.

Llanrug United had to settle for a share of the spoils following a frantic finish in the 4-4 home draw with Greenfield.

The hosts enjoyed a comfortable lead heading into the closing stages thanks to goals from Jonathan Sadler (2), Dylan Owen and Aaron Hughes, but an unbelievable collapse saw Tony Hogan’s men net three in injury time to rescue a point.

A brace from Steve Jones was the catalyst behind Penrhyndeudraeth’s 5-1 win at Mynydd Llandegai, with Owain Jones and Callum McDonald on target for Llanberis in their 2-2 home draw with Llandudno Albion.

There was no such luck for Barmouth and Dyffryn United, who suffered a narrow 1-0 loss at Prestatyn Sports.

Division Two leaders Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs remain in control despite being held 1-1 at home by Pwllheli.

Iwan Griffiths gave the pacesetters a slender cushion with a well-taken finish on 24 minutes, Pwll’ levelled through Dafydd Jones on 41 to secure a share of the spoils.

Aberffraw had a day to forget as they were hammered 10-2 at Glan Conwy, but there was better fortune for Holyhead Town as Joe Donovan’s final minute goal gave them a 1-0 triumph over Mochdre Sports.
