A HOST of Colwyn Bay school swimming stars achieved success at the regional stage of a prestigious national competition.

The Rydal Penrhos contingent recently took part in the Urdd Regional Gala, with hopefuls looking to qualify for the National Finals, which will be held in Cardiff in the coming weeks.

Jorgie Lynch produced a fine effort to touch the line first in the Year 5/6 Freestyle event, with Jorvan Toor also securing an impressive result after triumphing in the Years 3 and 4 Backstroke.

Another achieving gold was Noah Roberts in the Years 3 and 4 Breaststroke, and a resounding performance from the Boys’ 5/6 Relay team saw them book their place at the national showcase in style.

There was further cause for celebration in the Boys’ Year 3 and 4 and 5/6 Medley Relay squads, who both finished first to continue their exceptional development.

Other performances of note came from Martha-Rose Johnson, who came second in the Years 3 and 4 Breaststroke, and Gracie Tavernor also claimed the same finish in the Year 5/6 Backstroke category.

Tomas Milligan and brother Cieran has three second places between them, with Jorvan adding to his earlier gold with a silver in the Years 3 and 4 Freestyle.

The Girls’ 5/6 relay teams claimed a pair of seconds in the Freestyle and Medley events, with the Boys getting a silver medal in the Years 3 and 4 Freestyle.

Head of Swimming Maciej Ruszkowski, said: “This was another very pleasing performance and one that each member of the squad can be enormously proud of.”
