LLANDUDNO suffered their first loss of the season as they fell to a 20-10 home reverse at the hands of Nelson in the SWALEC Plate.

The WRU National League Division One North leaders were undone by their South Walian opponents during a physical cup clash, and the Goats will now turn their attentions back to their title charge when they entertain Denbigh on Saturday (2.30pm).

The home side played with conditions in the favour during the first period and went ahead through a well-struck penalty from Arthur Lennon on 15 minutes, but the visitors responded well during a hotly contested half and went into the break ahead when a quick break saw Jay Spear cross the white wash. Ross Jones added the extras.

After the interval saw the hosts reimpose themselves on proceedings, and they managed to take the lead once again when a powerful run from Ed Weston saw him crash over the line. Lennon was successful with the conversion attempt.

That was as good as it got for the Goats, who failed to make the most of their possession and ill-discipline cost them midway through the half which resulted in Jones despatching a pair of penalties.

The visitors continued to pile the pressure on their opponents in the closing stages of the tie, something that brought further reward when the outstanding Spear rounded off an exceptional individual display with his second score of the afternoon. Jones continued his excellent form with the boot with the extras to round off the scoring and condemn the Goats to defeat for the first time in all competitions this term.
