LLANRWST United booked their place in the Mawddach Challenge Cup third round with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Prestatyn Sports.
After the home side missed a host of opportunities in the first period, the Rwsters’ took full advantage of their inefficiency and went ahead on 40 minutes when Aaron Jones broke clear and finished well.
The second period saw Sports control possession for long periods, but they were unable to make inroads into the resolute Rwsters’ rearguard, who saw out the remainder of the game in comfortable fashion to move to the next stage of the competition.
Mochdre Sports were unable to cause an upset as they were beaten 3-0 at home by Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One leaders Bodedern Athletic.
Things did not begin well for the home side and they fell behind on five minutes when Ricky Jones hit the target, and they fell further behind on the 20-minute mark when Kieron Downey doubled the visitors’ advantage.
Their task became nearly impossible when an own goal secured a fourth for Athletic on the half hour mark, but Sports acquitted themselves extremely well following their latest setback and although they did not manage to get back into the tie, they gave their in-form opponents plenty to think about in the second period.
