LLANDUDNO face a massive test of their credentials as they look to avoid a JD Welsh Cup giant-killing this weekend.

The JD Welsh Premier League basement dwellers face a tricky trip to Llangefni Town on Saturday, with Chris Roberts’ side aiming to take their second top-flight scalp after a stunning success over Llanelli Town at the third round stage.

Tudno boss Iwan Williams will be looking to put a good run together which could provide a catalyst to better league form as they look to mount the great escape during Phase Two of the season.

They enjoyed the weekend off from competitive action but did take part in a specially arranged friendly against the Ynys Mon men’s side to boost their preparations ahead of the Inter-Games tournament on Anglesey this summer.

Campbell Harrison’s side turned in a very encouraging performance to emerge as 2-1 winners, but despite the eventual result it was the home side that drew first blood when Alun Webb latched on to a through ball to fire past Porthmadog’s Paul Pritchard.

This provoked a strong response from the visitors, who spurned good chances during the remainder of the first period when Jay Gibbs, Ryan Taylor and Steven Whittaker all went close.

Things changed dramatically in the second half and they levelled matters soon after the restart when some brilliant individual work from Gibbs set up Holyhead Hotspur forward John Littlemore, who made no mistake with the finish.

Citizens’ starlet Sam Jones then took centre stage with what proved to be the game-winner, picking the ball up on the right hand side and unleashing an audacious half volley that caught the goalkeeper off guard and flew into the top corner.
