LLANDUDNO FC’s Academy stars secured a notable double from a regional futsal competition.

The talented youngsters managed to come through the North Wales Futsal Championships at U14 and U12 level with flying colours, qualifying for the semi-final stage of the event, which will be held in the coming weeks with a place in the National finals at stake.

The FAW hold mandatory leagues at under 12s and 14s for all academies, with ultimately the top two from the south set to play the top two in the north for the title of National champions.

Clive Rushton, Head of Youth Football at Llandudno, said: ‘’Our record at Futsal is something we’re extremely proud of with three National Championships and five North Wales titles won in the last eight years.

“Whilst our two age groups now face difficult semi-finals against two strong sides in TNS at U12s and Airbus at U14s, nevertheless given how our sides have played to date we should be confident as we approach the two semis in question.

“Futsal is all about pass and move, good technique and played at a fast pace. It’s what we constantly work on within all our coaching sessions, it’s how we develop our boys and it tends to show when we compete in the annual championships.”

Grant Montgomery who coaches the under 12s along with first team goalkeeping coach Dave Guinn, added: “At our best we can compete with anyone at academy level.

“We have two very good goalkeepers along with outfield players who are quick, technical and have a terrific attitude.

“The semis are played over 40 minutes and the nature of the game which is non-stop on a restricted Futsal court needs both stamina and a high level of concentration, which thankfully our boys have in abundance for such a young side.”
