LLANDUDNO Cricket Club’s junior section have received a funding boost from a national grant scheme.

The Lions secured a £1,000 grant from the Aviva Community Fund, which will be used to provide equipment for various age groups within their youth set-up ahead of the 2019 season.

A club spokesman, said: “The club has over the last few years worked very closely with schools in the area to provide free coaching to youngsters.

“The idea being that the youngsters take an interest in the sport and are attracted to play at our club.

“All our coaches are volunteers and work and coach unpaid. However we are badly in need of kit. The club need to provide this kit and at different sizes for different age groups.

“Things like bats, balls, helmets and protective equipment to ensure the children taking part are safe and remain injury free.

“The equipment is often too expensive for many of our youngsters and this must not prevent children from taking part.

“The club are planning an ambitious programme for the 2019 season with the World Cup looming in this country, and we would like to thank everyone who voted for us to receive the grant.”

The 2016 North Wales Cricket League Premier Division champions run youth teams at U15, 13, 11 and nine, with both boys’ and girls’ participating on a weekly basis.

After a lengthy social media campaign, the club received a huge response and a large portion of the vote in order to be awarded the grant.
