COLWYN Bay assistant Neil Coverley stated his side “did not get what they deserved” in their last gasp 1-0 loss at Ramsbottom United.

The under-strength Seagulls put in another performance full of quality and defensive nous, but they were crucially denied a share of the spoils late on to put a dent in their Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One West playoff hopes.

Craig Hogg’s men will be hoping for better fortune this Saturday when they entertain Skelmersdale United, with nothing separating the sides in a 0-0 draw earlier on in the season.

Coverley, said: “Disappointed to not get at least a point from the game on a difficult playing surface which suited there direct style more.

“Obviously playing percentage football and getting the ball forward quickly has worked for them so far this season to some degree but it’s not a style which we would want our players to produce.

“We changed the shape slight after 20 mins to nullify Ramsbottom’s threat and we grew in confidence as the game went on.

“We were up against it from the off with Rutter/ Mullholland/Downes all missing through injury. James Barrigan only returned on a flight from France minutes before meeting up with the squad to travel to the game.

“But credit to them all they put an honest shift in today and in football we only know too well you don’t always get what you deserve. We’ll be looking for a positive response this weekend.”

The away side weathered an early storm comfortably before carving out their best chance midway through the half when Ash Woods’ header came back off the crossbar, with returning stopper Andy Coughlin producing a series of impressive saves after the break to keep his side in the contest.

With the game heading towards a stalemate, former Bay forward Jamie Rainford came back to haunt his old club on 87 minutes when he finished off a quick counter-attack at the far post, leaving the visitors with little time to get themselves back into the contest.
