LLANRUG United reached the Mawddach Challenge Cup fourth round with a narrow 2-1 win at Mynydd Llandegai.

The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One title chasers were made to work hard for their victory despite taking the lead within the opening minute when Llion Jones found the net with the first notable attack of the tie.

This was met by a strong response from the home side, who levelled on 25 minutes courtesy of an Andy Barker strike, but United sealed their passage to the next stage of the competition when Jonathan Sadler finished well with 25 gone.

Also in the hat for the next round are Llangefni Town, who emerged from their clash against Barmouth and Dyffryn United with a 1-0 victory.

After squandering a host of opportunities in the first half, Chris Roberts’ men got the crucial breakthrough on 58 minutes when Matthew Jones steered home from close range after fine approach play from Liam Morris.

Bobby Griffiths hit the crossbar for the Magpies late on in search of a leveller that did not arrive despite the away side piling on the pressure in the dying moments.

There was no such luck for Bodedern Athletic, who exited the competition following a 3-0 home loss at the hands of current holders Llandudno Albion.

A brace from Ricky Jones did the majority of the damage, with Luke Smith also on target for the away side during a clinical first half display that Ricky Williams’ side could not recover from.
