BANGOR City manager Gary Taylor praised the commitment of his squad after they secured a 1-0 win at Conwy Borough.

The Citizens’ secured their first victory since the departure of some influential figures to see their Huws Gray Alliance title hopes boosted, and they were given further cause for celebration with the news that Airbus Broughton could only manage a draw with Guilsfield.

City are now just nine points behind the Wingmakers’ with a game in hand ahead of their next scheduled outing at home to Ruthin Town on Friday (7.45pm).

Taylor-Fletcher, said: “Every one of my players showed some real fight and they were spot on to a man.

“The work rate was there and you could see how much togetherness we have within the squad. You could see what it meant to the fans after the game and we cannot thank them enough for their support.

“We had to defend well and get our heads’ in there, which I thought we did well. Nathan (Woolland) made some big saves and with Johnno (Michael Johnston) alongside Mike (Williams) we looked a lot more solid so it gives us options which is what we needed.”

Home stopper Antoni Sarnowski had to be at his best to keep out Jacob Farleigh early on, and player-manager Taylor-Fletcher had an effort hacked off the line after six minutes.

After the break saw Gibbs’ side suffer a blow when Dean Seager was taken off through injury, and things got even worse for the home side on 66 minutes when teenage sensation Sam Jones was put through on goal, and the talented forward produced a deft finish to give City the lead.

Boro’ were presented with a golden chance to get back on level terms on 80 minutes when they were awarded a penalty for handball, but Corrig McGonigle’s spot kick was expertly diverted by Nathan Woolland to round off a miserable night for the former Citizens’ Academy product.
