COLWYN Bay manager Craig Hogg hailed his side after they secured a record-breaking 9-0 home rout over Skelmersdale United.

The Seagulls secured their biggest ever NPL victory thanks to a scintillating attacking display, and they still hold an outside chance of making the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One West play-offs ahead of their long trip to Newcastle Town on Saturday (3pm).

Hogg, said: “We felt we were really unlucky last week so the message to the lads going into this game was to perform like we can and to make sure we ultimately got what we deserved at full time - the players were devastating in doing that.

“Some of our attacking play was simply sensational to witness and although the score line was a big plus for us, the way the players executed some of their build up play was the thing that pleased me most.

“Certain players often grab the headlines for goals scored but Danny (Andrews) in particular was unplayable at times today and his work rate was outstanding, he really did typify what we are about as a dressing room.

“I’m told that this result is a new club record and that’s really pleasing to, but it will now be a case of making sure we remain grounded.

“We must keep to the standards the lads have set themselves moving into the last nine games or so and if we can do that then I’ll be made up.”

The home side took a five-goal lead into the break after a stunning first half that saw Tom McCready and James Barrigan fire in a brace apiece, with Danny Andrews also on target during a rampant first period.

After the break saw the same pattern of play emerge, with Ashley Woods, Ethan Devine, Danny Andrews again and second half substitute Astley Mulholland all finding the net to complete the rout.

The exceptional result beat Bay's previous best NPL win of 7-0 away to Radcliffe in 2009 and moves them to within nine points of the top six.
