A COLWYN Bay Football Club staff member has been shortlisted for a prestigious award.

Elfyn Jones’ superb work throughout the season has seen the Seagulls’ shortlisted for the Evo-stik Northern Premier League's Pitch of the Year awards in partnership with GreenFields.

The shortlisted nine clubs have been selected by their fellow teams via an online vote, launched mid-February, with Colwyn Bay, Kidsgrove Athletic and Trafford being the three nominees for the Evo-stik West division.

Jones is in his third season volunteering with the Seagulls after previously holding a position with Warrington Town, and he has also assisted at National League side Chester at times during the campaign.

He spends between 25 and 30 hours a week working on the pitch at the Four Crosses Construction Arena, combining his time at the club with the tanning salon he runs in the area, where he spends 35 hours a week on average.

GreenFields have now arranged pitch inspections at the nine shortlisted clubs which will take place from March 27-29.

The judges will also take time to interview each groundsman on aspects such as fertiliser frequency and summer renovation plans, as well as taking into account the staff used for pitch maintenance, the maintenance equipment owned by the club, the weather on the day of the visit, the geographical location and weather implications, the average hours of pitch usage and the level of irrigation in place at the club.

The three winners (one winner per division) will be announced at the League’s Annual End of Season Awards in Blackpool on June 15.
