A TALENTED golfer has earned another national squad selection ahead of a high-profile upcoming fixture.

Reuben Bather, a Year 11 pupil at Rydal Penrhos School in Colwyn Bay, has been named in the Wales U18 side that will take on their Irish counterparts at Rosslare Golf Club in County Wexford from March 14-17.

The sports scholar will be part of an eight-player squad that will take part in a practice day, before getting down to business with a two-day team and individual contests that will determine the overall victor.

This is the latest in a series of impressive accolades for the scratch handicapper, who was part of the Welsh side that secured a historic victory in the Quadrangular tournament in Holland last year.

He was also part of the Rydal Penrhos Golf Academy side that secured the ISGA Northern Area title alongside fellow members Adrian Lewis and Charley Simpson, and they will now take their place in the national finals at Royal St. George's Golf Club, the home of the 149th Open Championship.

Allen Boyd, director of sport at Rydal Penrhos, said: “Reuben is an enormously talented individual who is a proven and experienced competitor on the national stage, and this will be another fantastic experience for him as he looks to add to his outstanding list of recent achievements.

“He has been a huge part in the incredible success of our Golf Academy since its inception, and Reuben has also lent his support to younger members of the Rydal Penrhos community who are looking to follow in his footsteps.”
