STORM Gareth decimated the weekend’s sporting fixtures and left its mark on some of the region's proudest sporting venues.

Heavy rain and strong winds over the weekend left its mark across the region, with almost every notable fixture postponed involving football and rugby sides.

Llanrwst United’s Gwydir Park base was completely submerged after a nearby river burst its banks, which has cast uncertainty over the immediate future of the club due to the significant damage to its facilities.

Llandudno Cricket Club’s outside nets were severely damaged as a result of the storm, with some parts of their surface at The Oval also flooded.

Despite the best efforts of award-winning groundsman Elfyn Jones, Colwyn Bay’s weekend clash was also postponed due to a waterlogged surface, with Glan Conwy pivotal Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two clash at Llannefydd also falling victim to the weather.

Another set-up to be left reeling by the storm were Nant Conwy Rugby Club, who saw their clubhouse flooded and are now appealing for help from the community in regards to the repairs.

Llandudno Rugby Club’s surface resembled more of a swimming pool than a pitch, but it is believed that the long-term effects will be minimal as they continue their quest for the WRU National League Division One North title in the coming weeks.

The Wales U20 clash against Ireland at Stadiwm Zip World did go ahead on Friday night, as did Colwyn Bay Reserves' Lock Stock Fireworks Challenge Cup semi-final tie at Prestatyn Town.
