LLANELWY Athletic ended their Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Division One title campaign unbeaten thanks to a 4-1 home win over derby rivals St Asaph City Reserves.
It has been a memorable first season for the club, who secured promotion in emphatic fashion after winning 17 of their 20 league games and scored an unbelievable 115 goals in the process.
Despite the eventual result it was the young Saints that went into the break a goal to the good when Sam Stopforth’s impressive strike broke the deadlock on the half hour mark.
After the interval saw the home side got a foothold into the contest, and they were rewarded for their improved play on 66 minutes when Matty Lewis hit the target to level matters.
With the game heading towards a stalemate, Dan Price popped up with a finish on 85 minutes to put the hosts ahead for the first time, and Kyle Lally confirmed another three points and doubled their tally immediately following the restart.
There was still time for the home side to put the exclamation point on a wonderful season, with Greg Montgomery completing the scoring in stoppage time.
Rhos United kept their slim hopes of a top two finish alive with a 4-0 home triumph over Betws-y-Coed.
Goals from Tom Brady and Chris King gave United a comfortable cushion at the break, with Femil Allison and Simon Owens also finding the net in the second period to leave them two points behind Henllan with a game in hand.
