ST ASAPH City boss Daniel Brewerton credited his side’s response as they secured an emphatic 4-1 home success over Penrhyndeudraeth.
The Saints got back to winning ways following a heavy defeat at Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One title favourites Llangefni Town during their last outing, and the victory leaves them sitting in eighth position ahead of their trip to Barmouth and Dyffryn United on Saturday (2.30pm).
Brewerton, said: “The lads were fantastic, there was a lot of disappointment surrounding our previous performance against Llangefni as we felt we never gave a good account of ourselves, but the response was brilliant.
“The game was all about making sure we took three points to keep within touching distance of the teams above us and we managed to do that impressively.”
The home side started the game on the front foot and spurned a host of opportunities throughout the first period, but they did manage to go into the break with a slender advantage when John Terry headed into the net from a set-piece on 39 minutes.
A stunning start to the second half saw the hosts double their tally on 46 minutes when veteran defender Jamie Brewerton turned in a chance, and the former Rhyl standout went from scorer to provider when he teed up Josh Brown for their third of the contest with 52 on the clock.
Brewerton notched his brace with another superb header soon after to seal another three points for the home side, but Pen kept plugging away right until the end and notched a consolation through the prolific Meilir Williams with three minutes remaining.
