The Penrhyn Bay football club under 16 girls are gearing up for one of the biggest games of their junior career.

The Penrhyn Bay side won the semi final in February against Briton Ferry Llansawel 5-4 on penalties after finishing tied 3-3 at full time.

Penrhyn Bay under 16 girls coach, Ian Morgan, is expecting another tough encounter against Villa Dino next weekend.

Morgan, speaking to the Pioneer, said: "We play the same teams in the league here in North Wales and have done for the past three or four years so we know what they are like.

"But this team (Villa Dino) we know nothing about so we can't really plan for the game. So we will just focus on what we have been doing in training.

"It is going to be a tough game but whatever happens, I will still be very proud of what is a great bunch of girls.

"At the end of the day, whatever happens in the final we are still one of the best two teams in Wales.

"With some of the team moving up to the adult grades next year it is a great finish to their stint in the junior grades."

He said he had three goals at the start of the season - to win the league and coastal cup and make the Welsh Cup final.

The Welsh Cup final appearance is the first box ticked on their coaches list and they are not far away from achieving the other two being just one point off claiming the league title and to play in the final of the coastal cup in the coming weeks.

It has been a stellar year for the club who have not only enjoyed success in the under 16s but other grades as well.

The Under 14 girls are also through to the North Wales Coast Cup after a 5-2 win over Caernarfon recently.

It's not just team success either with a number of individuals selected to represent their country.

The latest pair to earn Welsh selection were Sophie Rawling (under 14) and Anna Houghton (under 16).

They were selected for matches against West Bromwich over the weekend.

Sophie said: "I am very proud to have been picked to represent Wales Under 13 girls Football squad. I was really excited for the game against West Bromwich Albion.

"Its a very exciting time to be a part of Women’s football in Wales at this time. It's a privilege to represent my country."
