A BOYS' Hockey squad at a Colwyn Bay school added to their impressive list of successes with another regional competition victory.

The U14 side at Rydal Penrhos took their place at the North Wales Championships, which saw the group compete against other schools from across the area.

They began the tournament in strong fashion with a hard-fought victory over Ysgol Eirias, before notching a goal bonanza in their convincing triumph over Myddleton College.

This same trend continued throughout the competition, with Rydal Penrhos emerging victorious to book their place in the Welsh Schools' Championship later on this year.

There were a host of individual standouts throughout the event, with skipper and North Wales squad member Alex Starling providing superb leadership and experience to lead the Rydal Penrhos contingent to victory.

Osca Clark and Callan Earle also produced a series of exceptional display, with vice-captain Jacob Cousins, Adam McGuigan, John Williams and James Copeland equally as impressive throughout.

Goalkeeper Niall Richardson and Year 8 pupil Laurence Richardson performed very well when called upon, and the school side notched 28 goals during their four matches and conceded just two.

Allen Boyd, director of sport at Rydal Penrhos, said: “This was an exceptional performance from our U14 squad, who worked together efficiently during the tournament and were worthy winners of the North Wales Championship.

“Each pupil involved can be enormously proud of their respective contributions during the tournament, and they will go to the national finals in confident mood as a result.”
