LLANDUDNO Amateurs were officially crowned Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division champions with a 4-3 home win over Abergele at The Oval.

It has been another memorable season for Sandy Malone’s side, who secured back-to-back championships following their Division One triumph last season.

Their exploits in the JD Welsh Cup ensured they had plenty of ground to make up on long-time leaders Llansannan, but they coped with the pressure well and not have an unassailable four-point cushion.

The performance of Mike Chapman played a leading role in the home side’s success on the day, with the in-form player finding the net on two occasions o ensure he finished the season on a high note.

Former Rhuddlan Town star Mathew Beach and Joe Jones also hit the target for the champions, but they were made to work hard by a Gele side who have two cup finals upcoming as they look to end the campaign with silverware.

The visitors’ goals came from Greg Hilditch, Kane Williams and Sam Aston, but it was not enough to prevent the Amateurs from securing the crown.

Llandudno Athletic remain in contention for promotion following their 7-3 home victory over Rhuddlan Town.

Wayne Hughes’ side travelled to the game with only nine players due to injury and work commitments, with Danny Talbot putting them to the sword throughout to end the game with five goals to his name.

A brace from Ste Cheung also contributed to their downfall, with Town forward Matty Rees firing in a hat-trick in their defeat, which leaves Athletic six points behind Llansannan with two games in hand and a superior goal difference.

Machno United emerged from their home tie against Cerrigydrudion with a 3-2 victory thanks to efforts from Luke Roberts (2) and Dion Lloyd.
