ST ASAPH City manager Daniel Brewerton praised his side’s performance as they suffered a narrow 1-0 loss at Llangefni Town.

The Saints ran the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One title favourites extremely close in a much-improved performance, with the City side fielding a number of youth players in their line-up for the first time.

Brewerton, said: “It’s a bit of a strange feeling for me, I’m never happy losing a game but I was really impressed with the lads this week.

“We had a terrible result last weekend against Barmouth and Dyffryn who seemed to score every time they attacked. Coming away to Llangefni was not the fixture you’d want on the back of that but the lads showed great character to brush it off and go out and compete with the top team in our division.

“We set out with a game plan and we nearly pulled it off, we looked dangerous on the counter attack and from set pieces, I think the final whistle came a couple of minutes too early for us as we had them on the back foot and were about to throw everything at them.

The positives we take out of this game will be vital going into our last three fixtures as we look to try and get that top half of the table finish.

“It was also great to give 16-year-old Ellis Blench his second appearance for us and also a debut for 20-year-old Liam Grayson off the bench. We have some great young talent at the club and to have four players in the starting lineup aged 19 or under and still push them all the way gives me great confidence in the future of the club.”

The away side set their stall out to frustrate Chris Roberts’ men from the outset, but they were undone on 18 minutes when prolific striker Liam Morris delivered a superb placed effort into the corner.

Brewerton’s side weathered the storm thereafter and threw everything at their opponents in the closing stages, but ran out of time in their pursuit of a leveller.
