PENRHYN Bay girls’ U16 side secured a historic Welsh Cup success after a 3-2 victory over Villa Dino Christchurch.

The monumental achievement for the young squad was achieved at the home of JD Welsh Premier League side Aberystwyth Town on Sunday, April 7, rounding off a sensational campaign with some prestigious silverware.

After both sides missed chances during the early stages of the showcase, it was Villa who notched the opener on 24 minutes when Gemma Prosser finished well from close range after good work from Niamh Warrender.

The Bay outfit responded well and got a crucial leveller right on the stroke of half-time when the prolific Ell Jones produced an excellent effort after latching on to an Ellie Bradley pass.

This momentum did not transition to the opening exchanges of the second period, and Villa got their noses in front yet again soon after the restart when Amy Williams took advantage of the space afforded to her and slotted home.

Their joy proved to be fleeting as the talented Jones once again turned the game on its head with a sensational individual strike, beating a host of defenders before putting away a chance.

Now fully in the ascendancy, Bay made the most of their dominance immediately following the restart when Jones was presented with another opportunity, and the clinical forward netted her hat-trick to seal another memorable achievement for a club.

There could be even more to come from the gifted group, who have already clinched their league title and remain on course for a quadruple should they win the North Wales and league cups.
