A TEENAGE golf sensation picked up another prestigious title at a high-profile event.

Reuben Bather, a Year 11 pupil at Rydal Penrhos in Colwyn Bay, formed part of the school’s Golf Academy team that competed at the ISGA British Schools’ Northern Open, which took place at Fleetwood Golf Club.

The scratch handicapper and Welsh U18 international was in dazzling form throughout the competition, finishing an unbelievable round with a 66 score to ensure he was crowned individual champion at the event.

This is the latest in a plethora of achievements from the Maesdu Golf Club junior captain, who has gone from strength-to-strength in recent months with a wealth of regional, national and international successes to his name.

Fellow Academy member Charley Simpson also performed well at the tournament, shooting 79 to give Rydal Penrhos a very creditable third-place finish overall.

The duo will look to carry this momentum into the ISGA National Matchplay Finals later this year after clinching the northern area championships as a trio that also included Adrian Lewis.

Allen Boyd, director of sport at Rydal Penrhos, said: “What Reuben consistently continues to achieve is a testament to his incredible work ethic and talent, which is nurtured superbly by expert coaching at our Golf Academy and exceptional conditioning as part of Rydal Penrhos’ sports scholarship programme.

“To come away with such a prestigious title against the country’s best young golfers takes self-belief, confidence and the ability to perform on the big occasion, something Reuben and Charley possess in abundance.”
