A TALENTED young golfer has received another impressive accolade from his regional club.

Charley Simpson, a Year 9 pupil at Rydal Penrhos School in Colwyn Bay, has been appointed Junior Captain at Rhos on Sea Golf Club for the second successive season ahead of a busy series of fixtures and competitions over the summer.

The 13-year-old has enjoyed a standout young career to date, which has seen him selected to the Golf Union Wales’ prestigious player development programme.

He also played a significant role in the Rydal Penrhos team that won the Independent Schools’ Golf Association Northern Matchplay title alongside fellow pupils Reuben Bather and Adrian Lewis, ensuring qualification to the national finals later this year.

Another notable highlight for Charley was his participation in the British Par Three Championships at Nailcote Hall last summer, which saw him perform exceptionally well in a field of professionals.

Charley’s first year as Junior Captain of the picturesque course was a huge success, and he kicked-off his latest stint in the role at the club’s annual drive in event last month.

Allen Boyd, director of sport at Rydal Penrhos, said: “Charley has played a leading role in the incredible success of our Golf Academy since its inception, and it is clear that he has made a similar impact at Rhos on Sea Golf Club given his recent appointment.

“He is supremely talented and has come on leaps and bounds during the two-and-a-half years he has been with us at Rydal Penrhos, which is a testament to his ongoing dedication to the sport and the support he is receiving from Ian Richardson and other coaches.”
