A COLWYN Bay sailor kicked-off the new season in style with a superb competition win.

Max Todd, who is Head of Rydal Penrhos School’s sailing department, took his place in the field at the first Waszp UK Grand Prix of the season at Grafam Water Sailing Club on Saturday April 13 and Sunday 14.

The popular figure, who is also a former pupil, tackled the Baltic temperatures and blustering conditions superbly throughout the series opener, and he put himself in a commanding position with victory in the first two races at the event.

Mr Todd secured a series of high finished during day two at the event, which saw emerge victorious overall as a result of her exceptional display ahead of what promises to be a very busy summer for the ambitious sailor.

This is the latest in a series of outstanding recent achievements from Mr Todd, who has played a leading role in the recent success of Rydal Penrhos’ RYA Accredited sailing programme, which has produced a host of national and international sailors in recent years.

Allen Boyd, director of sport at Rydal Penrhos, said: “Max is a real inspiration to our young sailors both in his coaching and the way he consistently performs so well in a competitive environment.

“He is enormously talented and is a product of our sailing programme himself, and we are very fortunate to have him on our staff team at Rydal Penrhos.”
