TWO talented golfers from the region have surged up the national rankings after a series of exceptional performances in recent weeks.
Reuben Bather and Charley Simpson, Year 11 and 9 pupils at Rydal Penrhos School in Colwyn Bay, have both secured top-20 placings in the Independent Schools’ Golf Association UK ranking thanks to their sterling efforts on course.
Wales U18 international and Maesdu Golf Club junior captain Reuben, who recently scooped the ISGA Northern Open title with a sensational score of 66, currently sits in sixth position in the standings ahead of a busy series of fixtures throughout the summer term as he looks further establish himself as one of the brightest young prospects anywhere in the country.
There was further cause for celebration in the form of Golf Academy Wales member and Rhos on Sea junior captain Charley, who is in 19th place in recognition of his exceptional recent form.
Both Reuben and Charley will take their place at the ISGA Matchplay Championships after winning the northern regional heat alongside fellow Academy member Adrian Lewis.
Allen Boyd, director of sport at Rydal Penrhos, said: “Reuben and Charley have been the shining lights from our Golf Academy since its inception, and they have come along a significant amount thanks to the dedicated programme devised by Ian Richardson and his coaching team.
“They are enormously dedicated to their craft and are always striving to improve, and there is going to plenty of success coming their way in the coming weeks if they continue to develop at their current rate.”
