A STUNNING batting display from skipper Matty Humphreys gave Mochdre a convincing 213-run win at Connah’s Quay.

The newly promoted North Wales Cricket League Premier League side made an outstanding start to the campaign against a strong Quay side, and they will look to build on this positive momentum at home to Northop on Saturday.

Despite losing opener Gareth Goodson to a Mali Auty delivery on 17 early on, the partnership between Humphreys and Alex Jones pout the visitors in a commanding position early on thanks to a second-wicket stand of 264.

Jones demonstrated his exceptional shot selection before he was caught off a Lee Davies delivery on 102, with Humphreys hitting no fewer than 29 boundaries on his way to a jaw-dropping 185 not out.

James French (28*) and Mike Humphreys (15) also secured double-figure scores for the away side, who ended their 50 overs on a sensational 448-3.

The visitors got off to a flyer in the field when opening bowler Russ Boswell took out the dangerous duo of Martin Burger and Scott Adams for 33 and a duck, with Kyle Brown despatching captain Rhys Stout for just 13.

Opening batsman David Fox proved a far sterner proposition to remove, with the classy batsman making 115 before he was eventually skittled by Goodson during a crucial stage of the innings.

The returnee from Colwyn Bay also sent Lee Davies (5) back to the pavilion on his way to figures of 2-55 as the home side mustered 235-7 in reply.

There was no such luck for Mochdre’s second unit, who were narrowly beaten by 31 runs at home to Mynydd Isa and Maeshafn.
