A STUNNING bowling display gave Bangor the perfect start to the season in their seven-wicket triumph at home to Brymbo.

The North Wales Cricket League Premier Division title hopefuls produced a thoroughly impressive display against strong opposition, with Gareth Edwards’ side going in search of a second consecutive win at St Asaph on Saturday.

Michael Hughes made good use of the new ball with the quick-fire wickets of skipper James Claybrook (2) and Jamie Smith (5), with Chris Dawson proving to be a handful at the other end with the scalps of Gareth Pugh (4) and Peter Claybrook (2).

Talented teenager Owen Reilly also made a big impact with the wickets of Daniel Monk (3), Martin Turner (0) and Mohamed Jayman (5) on his way to figures of 3-12 from a seven-over spell, and Edwards helped himself to a pair of lower order victims in the form of Terry Jones (4) and Gareth Boys (12) as the away side were skittled for just 51 from 30 overs in the middle.

The home side got off to a good start despite losing Reilly early on when he was clean bowled by Jayman on nine, with Tomos Davies trapped lbw by Boys for a duck.

That was as good as it got for the away side, with a 35 knock from opener David Winter enough to ensure the hosts got over the line with minimal fuss, achieving their opening day victory after 25 overs of play.

Bangor’s second XI also got their season off to a flyer with an eight-wicket success at Llay Welfare, with Adam Khan claiming four wickets and Ali Zaidi top scoring with an unbeaten 44.
