A COLWYN Bay swimming sensation continued his exceptional recent run of form at a high-profile national event.

Zach Speakman, a Year 11 pupil at the Rydal Penrhos School, competed against some of the best young swimmers in the country at the Swim Wales Easter Nationals, which took place in Swansea during the termly break.

The sports scholar was competing in the 17+ category and managed to turned in an incredible performance throughout, securing three Gold medals as a result of his outstanding effort.

He achieved this feat in the 400-metre individual medley, 200m backstroke and 100m backstroke events, and he received his medals from World and Commonwealth Games medallist Chloé Tutton.

Zach reached the finals in all the competitions he entered in, achieving qualification times to compete in Glasgow at the British Championships but decided to compete at the Swansea showcase due to a clash in fixtures.

He is currently ranked in the top-24 in three sections at 17+ level, which represents a considerable feat given the fact Zach is juggling his training with his GCSE coursework and examinations later this year.

Allen Boyd, director of sport at Rydal Penrhos, said: “This is another exceptional performance from Zach, who continues to show why he is so highly regarded in swimming circles and he really has such a bright future in the sport if he continues to show the same desire in the months and years ahead.

“He is such a driven individual who always rises to the big occasion, and to come away with three gold medals from such a competitive event is a testament to his overall ability and his tremendous will to succeed.”
