A TEENAGE golf prodigy secured another high finish at a prestigious national event.

Reuben Bather, a Year 11 pupil at Rydal Penrhos School in Colwyn Bay, took his place in the field at the Scottish Boys’ Open Championship, which was held at West Kilbride Golf Club.

The sports scholar opened with a round of 74, before getting himself back into contention with a superb 69 during his second round.

This was followed by a sensational joint-best score of 67 in round three, with Reuben demonstrating the nerve and overall shot ability that has seen him make a considerable impact with the Wales U18 squad in recent months.

The Maesdu Golf Club junior captain concluded the competition with a final round of 70, giving him a four-under-par score overall that saw him finish in joint-fifth place to add to his ongoing list of exceptional achievements on the national stage.

Allen Boyd, director of sport at Rydal Penrhos, said: “Reuben has consistently shown why he is so highly rated within the game, and he has developed his game considerably since joining our Golf Academy and Sports Scholarship programme.

“His achievements are vast and Reuben demonstrates a composure on the course way beyond his relatively young age, and he really does have such a bright future within the game and we will work hard to ensure his objectives are met during the remainder of his time here at Rydal Penrhos.”
