COLWYN Bay have made another notable addition to their squad with the permanent signing of Alex Downes.

The talented young defender is no stranger to the Four Crosses Construction Arena during a productive loan spell at the Seagulls last term, and he will now join the set-up for a prolonged period in Tier 2 North following his release from Chester.

Manager Craig Hogg, said: “Again we are pleased to confirm that another member of last season’s playing squad has agreed terms.

“Alex had a really productive loan spell with us at Evostik West level last term, acquitting himself very well.

“He is a local lad who will soon be moving to the Bay area and it pleases me a great deal that Alex has got an another opportunity to improve his football education, within the positive learning environment I feel we have here.

“We are looking forward to working him again.”

The 19-year-old comes with a big reputation and gave a very good account of himself for the Bay last term, making 20 appearances and scoring two goals before an ankle injury hampered his progress.

Downes, added: “I am delighted to have agreed terms with Colwyn Bay and play under Craig and the rest of the management team for another season.

“Hopefully this season will be a successful one, for both the club and myself personally. I’m keen to kick on with my football as I feel I didn’t reach my full potential last season due a couple of injuries.

“I’m going to work extremely hard for everyone at the club and I’m looking forward to playing for the Bay again.”
