AN under-strength Llanrwst fell to a four-wicket loss at North Wales Cricket League Division One rivals Gwersyllt Park.

The Rwsters’ travelled with only nine available players thanks to Llanrwst United FC’s involvement in the Mawddach Challenge Cup final, and they managed to post a total of 144-8 from their 44 overs at the crease.

Veteran all-rounder Nathan Jones showed his class before he was clean bowled by Lewis Cole on 37, with Aled Hughes also producing a score of note with a knock of 32.

Lee Thomas provided some lower order runs with a two-boundary 20, with Cole the pick of the home bowlers with figures of 3-40.

A port start with the bat saw the home side lose openers James Collier (8) and Ian Pearson (0) early on, but they got back on track through Jake James’ 46 before he was skittled by Scott Thomas, who ended the day on 2-34.

Skipper Lee Beer aided his side’s cause with a 26 knock, with the duo of Ethan McCarthy and Cole both ending the innings unbeaten on 15 to ensure the hosts got over the line for the loss of six wickets after 37 overs in the middle.

Llanrwst will look to finally kick start their season this Saturday when they host Bersham.
